Mozilla To Launch Firefox-Based Streaming Dongle, Netcast

After successful launch and sales of Google’s Chromecast which is sold in millions, everyone else has learned potential of streaming devices. Recently, Amazon and Roku launched their devices. According to GigaOM, Mozilla will soon enter the market with their Firefox powered streaming device. A Mozilla enthusiast, Christian Heilmann recently uploaded a photo of Mozilla’s prototype streaming device on Twitter. People at GigaOM managed to dig more and even got their hands on the prototype as soon as that leaked photo went viral on twitter. The device serves better functionality and options than Chromecast. Mozilla has partnered with some anonymous manufacturer to build this device. The prototype has been sent to some developers for testing and reviews. This device which is called as "Netcast" has hackable open bootloader which makes the device run some chromecast apps. Mozilla has always looked for an open environment for their products. It is expected that the company’s streaming stick will come with open source technology which will help developers to develop HDTV streaming apps for smartphones.
